Old-School Meets New-School. Jazz Meets Dark-Pop. Enter The Roaring 2020s by Joy Frost!

Dark jazz-pop sensation Joy Frost is set to captivate listeners with the release of her latest album, The Roaring 2020s. This innovative project marks a bold reimagining of classic jazz standards blended with Joy’s original compositions, all wrapped in contemporary pop sensibilities.

After extensive work in the studio and careful crafting of each track, Joy Frost is excited to introduce a project that bridges the gap between generations. The Roaring 2020s is a blend of jazz and pop, taking listeners on a journey through the past, present, and future of alternative jazz, with each track offering a fresh take on the genre. The album strikes a perfect balance of old and new, featuring original songs and reimagined jazz covers. Joy Frost combines her signature dark pop style with the rich, soulful sounds of jazz, creating a unique auditory experience that is both nostalgic and forward-thinking, all while showcasing Joy's dark velvet voice and powerful vocal range which spans beyond three octaves.

Following her previous release, Sexual Woman, which garnered several million streams on Spotify, Frost now turns her focus to the golden age of jazz. By infusing these classic standards with new verses (added with the publisher's permission) and modern production techniques, she breathes new life into old favorites while introducing original compositions that complement the covers seamlessly.

The album gets straight to the point, weaving through a blend of old-school charm and new-school innovation, capturing the essence of jazz's history while pushing its boundaries. The Roaring 2020s embodies the energy of a live jazz club with the sleek polish of contemporary pop production, making it a must-listen. The lyrics in her latest work are honest, reflective, and imbued with the spirit of the roaring 2020s—a time of political transformation, a time to speak out for equality for marginalized groups, and the dichotomy in society between glamour and struggle. The Roaring 2020s is 100% Joy Frost—unapologetically different, political, and yet completely in tune with the roots of jazz. Blending her own original work with reinterpreted jazz standards with a pop twist, Frost immerses herself in the duality of the genre—honoring its past while embracing the future. The result: a lush, glamorous production with thoughtful lyrics and intricate melodies.

Joy on her album release: "When conceptualizing the sound for The Roaring 2020s, I remembered a wish I made as a child after watching Ken Burns’ documentary on Benny Goodman with my father. I realized then that I could grow up to be a singer in the 20s too, just a century later, and vowed to someday make a jazz record of my own, in a way that was unique and would honor the passage of time. This album is the manifestation of this childhood wish. The Roaring 2020s is full of jazz melodies mashed up over dark pop chord progressions. I hope this album can be a gateway into jazz for everyone. I hope the songs will resonate with both jazz veterans who will enjoy experiencing them in a whole new way, as well as with young listeners who may have never heard the jazz classics before. This modern-vintage album is a time machine, much like Doctor Who’s TARDIS. It’s not 100% historically accurate, but it’s a very fun adventure. There is even a new Doctor Who verse in Fever, I still can’t believe the publishers said yes! I am forever grateful I was allowed to time travel with the classics so this album from my heart gets to see the light of day."

The Roaring 2020s was produced as a concept double album, being split across two separate releases. Part One opens with “Why Don’t You Do Right”, an immediately captivating number that sets the dark jazz-pop tone for the album. Frost’s interpretations, such as her take on "All of Me,” showcase her ability to weave new verses into classics and hide jazz melodies over trap beats seamlessly. In line with the suffragette theme and fighting for equality, the album also features standout originals like "What Girls Want" which embody her unique sound and activism for women. Putting the “B” in LGBTQ+, Joy has also included a charity single for the trans community on the album, "I’m Trans", featuring the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles, with all profits going to protect trans people in the USA. The closing track, "Authenticity", leaves listeners with a lingering sense of nostalgia mixed with excitement for what’s to come in the next installment of this journey on Part Two next year.

As the standalone first half of a double album, The Roaring 2020s (Part One) stands strong on its own, offering a full, rich experience. While fans can look forward to the continuation next year, this release is a statement in itself—bold, innovative, and unafraid to push the boundaries of genre and style. Discover the unique blend of dark pop and jazz by listening to The Roaring 2020s today.
